Abstract

Periodontal disease or gingival disease are bacterial infections that are treated daily in the dental office. There is evidence regarding the antimicrobial efficacy of Ozone (both in gaseous, oily, and aqueous forms) that it is a highly effective agent for the elimination of microorganisms. Ozone therapy has become an adjunctive treatment in the control and treatment of diseases both dental and dermatological, cosmetic, among others due to its antimicrobial capacity. The objective of this study is to review the medical literature on the effects of ozone in clinical periodontal treatment, presenting and discussing advantages, objectives, contraindications and its different uses in dentistry, mainly in periodontal disease
